A video of Katy Perry’s shocking interaction with a young fan is gaining traction online.
If you haven’t seen it, a clip of Katy — who recently released her new album, 143 — was filmed walking through the streets of Brazil holding an open box of pizza.
Several fans and photographers surrounded Katy as she made her way through the street, but things took a turn when a young child suddenly ran up to the pop star from behind and grabbed her by the arms.
The little boy appeared to pull Katy in for an awkward hug, with many onlookers shouting in apparent shock.
However, in spite of the surprising moment, Katy remained composed, turning to speak with the child before offering him some of her pizza.
Many of the bystanders began to cheer as Katy offered the young boy her food, with the singer going on to embrace him. You can watch the clip for yourself here.
The interaction has since sparked some discourse online, with several fans praising Katy for graciously handling the “frightening” situation.
“She handled that very well. Must’ve been frightening but she gave them a moment and appreciated that,” one TikTok comment read.
“The way she handles it with grace and hugs him after tells you everything you need to know about her soul,” said another user, while a third added on X, “i would’ve had very bad reflex idk how katy perry does it so gracefully.”
Meanwhile, some users criticized Katy’s security team for allowing the young fan to run up and grab her. “I’m sorry her security should’ve been stopped him… running up on someone like that is insane,” one tweet read. “security kinda did a bad job tho cause wdym a stranger able to get close into her? It could have gone differently,” said another.
“People need to stop rushing celebrities like this is so weird and what makes you think this gonna be okay. It was actually kind of Katy to give him pizza & diffuse the situation because that would be so scary,” one more tweet read.
