Here’s A Roundup Of Snubs And Surprise Wins From The 2024 Emmys, According To The People Of The Internet

What’s an award show without a bunch of controversial wins…

The 2024 Emmys took place last night, and it was full of historic wins.

From Shōgun stars Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada becoming the first Japanese actors ever to win Emmys to Jean Smart bagging her sixth Emmy award, actors of all walks of life celebrated a bunch of incredible wins throughout the evening.

But naturally, as is the case with any award show, viewers were left frustrated at some so-called snubs of the night. Allow me to break it all down.

Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series

Now, this is controversial. Comedy legends like Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Matt Berry lost out on the award for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series to Jeremy Allen White, who won for his role in The Bear. Several people have argued that while The Bear does feature comedic elements, it is certainly not a comedy and, therefore, shouldn’t have swept in that category — which is why Jeremy’s win sparked some pretty intense backlash online

Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy

Again, some people weren’t entirely pleased when The Bear star Liza Colón-Zayas won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy* over the likes of Hannah Einbinder (Hacks) and Meryl Streep (Only Murders in the Building). In fact, Hannah’s mom, Laraine Newman, shamelessly took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “FUCK. THE. BEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” after her daughter lost out on the win.

*People were especially confused given that The Bear's nominations were for Season 2, and Liza's biggest episode was in Season 3.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach took home the accolade for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in The Bear, beating out the likes of Tyler James Williams (Abbott Elementary), Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live), and more.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie — and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie

Matt Bomer losing in the Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category upset several fans at home. The actor was nominated for his role in Fellow Travelers, with Richard Gadd (Baby Reindeer) winning the award instead. Matt’s Fellow Travelers costar, Jonathan Bailey, also lost out on the Emmy to Lamorne Morris (Fargo). One person wrote on Reddit, “Fellow Travelers, Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey were ROBBED… It's one of the best tv shows I've ever seen. It's such a beautiful love story,” while another tweeted, “fellow travelers snubbed, jonathan bailey snubbed, matt bomer snubbed.”

Outstanding Reality Competition Program

Slow Horses won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series over Shōgun, which left some fans “furious.” You can read all about the show’s impressive writing process here.

Meanwhile, series that failed to win a single award despite having multiple nominations include Only Murders in the Building, Reservation Dogs, and Saturday Night Live.

Other fans said they felt Mr. And Mrs. Smith, Lessons in Chemistry, and What We Do in the Shadows deserved nominations and wins.
