Ariana Grande Appeared To Slam The Long-Running Scrutiny Of Her Weight On Charli XCX’s New “Brat” Remix Album

The new lyrics come over a year after Ariana posted a heartbreaking TikTok video addressing some of the cruel body-shaming comments she’d received.

The album, titled Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat, features remixes of each of Brat’s original songs with a bunch of renowned artists — some of whom include Billie Eilish, Troye Sivan, and Ariana Grande.

Ariana features on Charli’s remix of “Sympathy is a knife,” and appears to make a bunch of swipes at the ongoing discourse around her appearance.

For context, Ariana has sadly faced body-shaming comments for years. Last year, she addressed the unfair scrutiny around her weight in a heartbreaking TikTok video, during which she urged people to be “less comfortable” discussing people’s bodies.

“I don’t do this often, I don’t like it, I’m not good at it,” she said. “I just wanted to address your concerns about my body and talk a little bit about what it means to be a person with a body and to be seen and to be paid such close attention to.”

“I was on a lot of antidepressants and drinking on them and eating poorly and at the lowest point of my life when I looked the way you consider my ‘healthy,’” she said. “But that in fact wasn’t my healthy.”

What’s more, Ariana has recently denied long-running rumors that she’s had cosmetic work done.

Taking part in Vanity Fair's Lie Detector Test last month, Ariana’s Wicked costar Cynthia Erivo asked if the Victorious actor has had any work done on her face or whether she’s gotten a nose job or a boob job. Ariana firmly replied, “No,” to each of Cynthia’s questions, and the lie detector technician confirmed that she was being truthful.

Now, Ariana has seemingly slammed the ongoing speculation around her appearance on the “Sympathy is a knife” remix.

Ariana sings, “It's a knife when you know they're counting on your mistakes / It's a knife when you're so pretty, they think you must be fake.”

“It's a knife when they dissect your body on the front page / It's a knife when they won't believe you, why should you explain?” she continues.

“It's a knife when the mean fans hate the nice fans / When somebody says, ‘Ari, I think you've totally changed,’” she sings. “(It's a knife) When somebody says they like the old me and not the new me / And I'm like, ‘Who the fuck is she?’”

In recent months, Ariana has faced criticism from some fans over her so-called new appearance and style — namely her voice, which she’s defended numerous times.
